When you run Thonny for the first time, there’s a simple configuration step (Figure 2) Thonny opens after that. It’s also handy to add this run file as an app to your ‘start’ menu. If your system gives you the option to Run in Terminal / Display / Cancel / Run, select Run. Running Thonnyĭouble-click your run file to start Thonny. It’s a self-contained app with Python, the py5 libraries, and Java. You can now move the thonny_py5 folder anywhere you like on your system, copy it to other Linux computers, and so on. Sudo apt-get remove -purge python3.9 python3.9-dev python3.9-venv This is necessary to build py5 you can remove them later. Step 1 – Start by installing a few Python 3.9 packages. But, there are “alt-variants” of Thonny that use Python 3.9 instead of 3.7, which you’ll use instead. However, py5 requires Python 3.8 or higher. At the time of writing, Thonny (at version 3.3.10) comes bundled with Python 3.7.9. The result is an IDE that resembles that of the Processing PDE. The aim here is a self-contained bundle that runs even if the user’s computer is missing Python, Java, or any other packages that py5 or Thonny ordinarily require. There are other ways to install py5 – with Python, Anaconda, and for Jupyter notebooks. Note that you’re creating a portable IDE. I’ll also provide a quick-start guide to writing py5 code with Thonny. I’ve explained each step, though, so you can adapt the process accordingly for other platforms. The process is similar for Mac and Linux setups, although I will not cover the procedure for those platforms. Ubuntu and other Debian distros should work with these instructions. This post covers how to roll your very own portable Thonny + py5 IDE on Linux (Mint in my case). What’s more, you can run a portable app off a USB drive. In other words, if you’re using a system like mine (Debian-based Linux, in this case), I can zip up the files and send the archive to you all you need to do is extract and run it! No installation process required. This is useful for different reasons, including that it’s easier to distribute something that beginners can simply click and run. I prefer to run applications in a ‘portable’ fashion where I can. Figure 1: A faux Processing.py/Python Mode IDE set up with Thonny and py5 I’m delighted with the result (Figure 1). So, I promptly set out to see if I could combine py5 with Thonny, a fantastic Python IDE for beginners. I’ve been involved with Processing.py for some time, and I got excited when I read this. Processing.py and py5 do not share any code but py5 benefits from code in the Processing core libraries written to accommodate Processing.py.” Py5 is similar to Processing.py in that both use Python syntax but their implementations are very different. “Processing.py is the spiritual ancestor to and inspiration for py5. p5 is a sort of Python ‘clone’ of Processing, that doesn’t actually use Processing to generate visual output. Previously, I wrote a post on combining the Thonny editor and p5. You can check out the project repo to track how work on the plug-in is progressing. I’ve begun working on a Thonny plug-in, thonny-py5mode, that automates the installation steps I cover in this post. I very recently stumbled upon py5, a Python version of Processing for Python 3.8+ that uses Processing’s core libraries under the hood (thanks to some JPype magic). After the process, click the Download tap to save your audio on either Dropbox or local storage. And lastly, tap the Cut button to trim MP3 using Online UniConverter. Last but not least, navigate to the Save To button and select an audio format to transcode your MP3 file to. Also, you can manually enter the minutes or seconds as well as set the fade effects. Now drag the purple trimming handles at the start and endpoint of the imported MP3 to set the beginning and ending points for the file. Another alternative way is to simply drag and drop MP3 on the trimmer. The next step is to click the Add button to upload your MP3 audio. Also, I recommend the Google Chrome for a smoother process. Make sure that your browser is updated for quality results. On your favorite desktop browser, launch the Online UniConverter. Here we introduce 9 best free MP3 cutter for both Windows and Mac users to cut any MP3 files in an easy way. Also, some users don’t like installing third-party plugins in their computer as it is the case with WMP. For instance, they are a bit complicated to use for beginners. Best Audio Trimmer for Mac/WindowsĪlthough the first two methods will ensure high quality results, they have some drawbacks. You can convert MP3 to M4A, AAC, M4R, and more. Step 5: Finally, save your edited MP3 file by clicking File > Export/Save As and then choose an audio format. You can also trim by entering the start and end time manually. Step 4: Now drag the trimmer timeline to set the starting point for your MP3 file. If it’s okay, tap the yellow Trim button located on the top-right corner. Step 3: Now press the play button to preview your changes. This should help you set the start and end time for your audio. You can now start cutting by moving the yellow trim sliders. Step 2: Next, click the Edit tab and then choose the Trim option. To open a file, simply drag it to the app or click File > Open File. Step 1: After identifying an MP3 audio that you’d like to trim, open it using the QuickTime Player. So, if you want to cut down an audio using QuickTime, apply these simple steps: This preinstalled app is pretty straightforward and works smoothly on all Mac OS X versions. Trimming MP3 on Apple QuickTime should be a piece of cake with the right steps. How to Trim an MP3 in Windows Media Player That chanted support allows Plant to belt out as many phrases he can think up in the last minute or so. The song takes its turn after a classic Plant line: “I’m gonna leave her when the guitars play.” From there, Zep-heads will recognize another oddity: backing vocals. But the track’s build-up and high-volume crescendo give it that classic Zeppelin feeling. While “Hey, Hey What Can I Do” has the usual Jimmy Page/Robert Plant songwriting credit, John Paul Jones has a solid instrumental contribution on the mandolin. The John Paul Jones mandolin and screaming finish make it Zep-worthy Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin perform at Sports Arena, 6-23-1972, in San Diego. “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” wasn’t an acoustic showcase like “Black Mountain Side” or a folk ballad like “Going to California.” It was probably as close to a back-porch jam as Zep ever released. Otherwise, the light country-rock track was a bit of an oddity in the band’s catalog. As the authors of the essential Led Zeppelin: All the Songs put it, the “sole purpose” of “Hey, Hey” was to spice up the flip-side of the 1971 single. After all, compared to “Friends” or, say, “Hats Off to (Roy) Harper,” many Zep fans would’ve cast a vote for “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do.”īut that wasn’t in the cards for the “Immigrant Song” B-side. That got Zep-heads wondering how the track, recorded during the Led Zeppelin III sessions, didn’t make it onto that album. (“Traveling Riverside Blues” was another one.) Fans who’d been starved for extra material had a reminder of what they’d missed. When Zep’s boxed sets (including The Complete Studio Recordings) went out in the early ’90s, “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” returned as something of a lost gem in the Zep catalog. Zep only planned to use it as the B-side to ‘Immigrant Song’ Jimmy Page and John Bonham relax at a hotel, Hiroshima, September 1971. Though Side A of the “Immigrant Song” single had nothing extra to offer Zep fans, they got a treat on the B-side with “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do.” It was the only song Zep ever released that didn’t go out on an album. (Zep never released a single in the UK.)īut that changed (slightly) with the band’s third record. Fans who’d bought the album had no use for the “Whole Lotta Love” single Atlantic released in the U.S. The same went for Led Zeppelin II, the group’s blistering follow-up. Otherwise, anyone with Zep’s debut album already had it. “Good Times Bad Times,” released in March of that year, would have only given casual fans a chance to own some of the band’s music. When Led Zeppelin crashed onto the scene in 1969, the band’s singles were optional. The following year (from the Revolver sessions), you’d definitely need the “Paperback Writer” single with “Rain” on the B-side. In the Rubber Soul era, you’d want the “We Can Work It Out” 7-inch with “Day Tripper” on the flip-side. We feel they're about as good as you're going to find.If you were a Beatles fan, a Fab Four single was a must-have. These lyrics are NOT canonical, they are the best we could come up with. This results in new insights for the question of genre in video games, as it is established that genre is rooted not in game mechanics, but in game aesthetics that is, play-experiences that share a phenomenological and pragmatic quality, regardless of their technical implementation. This model is tested through the history and analysis of the First-Person Shooter genre. Evolution is linked to the processes of innovation, and so a model of innovation is laid out from a compare-and-contrast approach to literary and film genre innovation. The technological imperatives that characterize video game production are also pinpointed as relevant to the establishment and development of video game genres. After a comparative analysis, video game genres are found to differ from literary and film genres precisely on the basis of evolution. Using the concept of genre requires one to acknowledge the recent developments of genre theory in other fields of research one such development is the contestation of the idea of generic evolution. This paper provides a critical overview of the notion of genre in game studies and in the video game industry. Note: an updated version of this article can be found in my dissertation (Chapter V) Therefore, a comparatist should always be aware of the specificities of the particular medium. Furthermore, modern style games increasingly put the camera in the hands of the gamer. In newer games film style cinematography is possible but not all gamers are versed in film cues. In mise-en-scène the way a game visualizes setting and props depends on the technical capabilities of the system the game is played on. In addition, the changing game demographics have prompted a rethinking of the term for computer games. I will show that genre, in itself already a contested term, is used differently in literary-, film-, and gamestudies. In this article, focussing on the terms genre and mise-en-scène, I point out some of the problems such comparisons can elicit. As these games use (visual) narrative techniques, it is natural to use research methodologies from literary and film studies to analyse them, especially when the game is compared to its filmic or literary counterpart. Computer games are also used in transmedia storytelling. So-called games of progression are often film adaptations or are adapted themselves into other media. Just addition operators is a really bad idea! In reality, hashing algorithms use many combinations of linear and non-linear operations.Īll of this adds up to a situation where the easiest way of finding a matching hash is just to guess a different input, hash it and see if it matches. Note the addition example I use above is a linear operation building a hash algorithm using To "solve" the input from a given output. Non-linearity: Hashing algorithms always contain non-linear operations - this prevents people from using linear algebra techniques Since the output changes so dramatically with each input bit change, this stops people from building up relationships between inputs and outputs (or parts thereof). Result in a huge change in the internal state of the algorithm and of the final hash value. In other words, when reversing a hash, it's all or nothing.Īvalanching: Related to bit dependency, a change in a single bit in the input (from 0 to 1 or vice-versa) is designed to In order to solve just one output bit, you have to know the entire input. This prevents anyone from splitting the algorithm up and trying to reverse calculate an input from each bit of the output hash separately. (As above, these are basic explanations and if you really want to understand, Wikipedia is your friend).īit dependency: A hash algorithm is designed to ensure that each bit of the output is dependent upon every bit in the input. Use and how they help to make it non-reversible. Since this question seems to have attracted some attention, I thought I'd list a few more of the features hashing algorithms In summary, hashing algorithms are specifically designed to perform lots of one-way operations in order to end up with a result that cannot be calculated backwards. And you can't solve it by trial and error, because there are simply too many combinations to guess (more than atoms in the known universe, etc) If you start guessing numbers (in the later stages) wrong, you'll end up with an inconsistency in the earlier stages (like 2 + 2 = 53). So when you try to reverse it (and guess the two inputs in a later stage), the only way to tell if the numbers you are guessing are correct is to work all the way back through the hash algorithm. What happens in a real hash function is that hundreds of one-way operations take place sequentially and the results from earlier operations are used in later operations. Now you might think that it doesn't matter - if the two inputs sum to the correct value, then they must be correct. If you know the 2 inputs, the output is easy to calculate - and there's only one answer.īut if you only know the output, how do you know what the two inputs are? 928 = 119 + 809 Addition takes 2 inputs and produces 1 output (the sum of the two inputs). You may compare the hashes of your file to the original hash, which is normally supplied on the website where you obtained the data or file.Take a simple mathematical operation like addition. For example, if you download anything, you can quickly verify that the data has not been tampered with as a result of network problems or malware infiltration. The SHA256 technique can still be used to ensure that you have the same data as the original. Years ago, you would save SHA256 encrypted passwords in your database to safeguard your credentials from hackers. As a result, it is no longer recommended for password security or other related applications. It is now possible to decode the SHA256 algorithm using the latest hardware (CPU and GPU) upgrades. This qualifies it for data integrity checks, challenge hash authentication, anti-tamper, digital signatures, and blockchain. Hash is referred to as a one-way function. The SHA256 algorithm creates a 256-bit (32-byte) hash that is nearly unique. The method will give a different hash result even if just one symbol is modified. It is usually preferable to hash and compare SHA256 values when comparing two pieces of raw data (file source, text, or similar). A cryptographic hash is similar to a data set's signature. One of a variety of cryptographic hash functions is the SHA (Secure Hash Algorithm). I hope you have found this article helpful. It is the best option to try macOS Big Sur on virtual machines.
